Play Date is more than just a short film, it's a story that will make a difference. Partial proceeds go directly to helping the homeless individuals rebuild their lives.


What would you do if you discovered a homeless person in your backyard?

  • Would you call the police?
  • Lock the doors?
  • Or would you invite them in?

Whatever your answer, we can all lend a helping hand in ending homelessness.




Play Date is a short film about a little girl who discovers a homeless woman in her backyard and invites her inside for a play date, without her distracted parents noticing.

Play Date takes a light-hearted approach to the issue of homelessness, an invisible part of our daily lives that's happening right in our own backyards. The film will challenge preconceptions and turn expectations upside down. Through the power of storytelling, Play Date helps us take a deeper look at ourselves and at what being homeless really means.

By supporting this campaign, you will help produce a film that will entertain and delight audiences while bringing awareness to the issue of homelessness, making a difference to the lives of others. A percentage of all proceeds will be donated to OPCC, an organization in Santa Monica, CA dedicated to improving and rebuilding the lives of homeless individuals.


                                           



Giving Back to OPCC - Ocean Park Community Center

We will donate 5% of all of our campaign proceeds directly to OPCC to support their goal of ending human suffering. Founded in 1963, OPCC addresses the effects of poverty, abuse and discrimination. Their clients include at-risk youth; people dealing with physical illness, disabilities or severe mental illness; women and children experiencing domestic violence; and Veterans. OPCC empowers people to rebuild their lives.

Our goal is to make a difference for others through funny, meaningful stories that force us to take a look at the way we live our lives. We are filmmakers (most of us are female) who are committed to making films that matter. We care about about making the world a better place and we love to tell relevant stories by, for and about women. 


THE PRODUCTION TEAM


Paige Morrow Kimball - Writer/Director/Producer
Originally from New York City, Paige is a woman of reinvention. She's a writer, director, producer, actor, mom and late bloomer who fully intends to add more commas to this sentence. Paige keeps it real, telling stories from the middle. Film writing & directing credits include: the award winning short, Ending Up, Slipped, and the YouTube hit, OMG! I’m Knocked Up. Documentary and reality credits include: HBO’s Project Greenlight, Fox’s Boot Camp, ABC’s The Oprah Winfrey Show and more. Acting credits include: Come Simi, Dude Where’s My Chutzpah?, The Anniversary, and lots more. Kristina Kondrath - Producer
Southern California native Kristina cultivated a keen interest in the entertainment industry thriving around her hometown of Pasadena. Kristina worked on Trojan Vision at the University of Southern California while she attended and later graduated with a Bachelor's in Business Administration with a focus on cinema and television. Now a producer at ReKon Productions, a company she shares with her brother, Kristina has expanded her portfolio to producing and coordinating projects ranging from commercials and trailers, to shorts, web series and music videos. She has helped create promotional content for Doritos, Nokia, EA Games, Epson, Comcast and most recently, Covergirl. Presently, Kristina is developing future projects for Rekon and producing her upcoming feature film, 7 on 10, a film that deals with Women’s Addiction Recovery in Prison. 


Toby Lawless - Producer
Toby started his career in production in college in Middlebury, Vermont where he produced and hosted a weekly jazz radio show, and was director of his college improvisational group. In his 3 years in New York after college he took a tack to teaching and developing theater and improv based educational programs for a non-profit in partnership with the most under-served public high schools in the five boroughs. He then worked for an educational software company in communications and business development. Since moving to LA six years ago, he's worked in production and casting on over 1,000 commercials. Lately he's been exploring production in several areas, having produced his first film SAM a ten minute film addressing Veteran Suicide. 


Vallerie Perrault - Transmedia Producer
Vallerie has firm roots in social media and campaign branding and management. She has had the pleasure of collaborating on successful crowdfunding campaigns in music and the upcoming feature film, 7 on 10, as well as a partnership with Warner Brothers’ The Hangover Part II. Vallerie enjoys photography of all types, including her action shot self-portrait project A Pallerie A Day. A Connecticut native and Quinnipiac University graduate, Vallerie has always held a passion for improving the lives of those around her. Go ahead, test out her overwhelming urge to help others and see what happens.


THE CAST



Terry Walters - The Homeless Woman
Terry began her professional career in the theater in New York, where she was born and raised. She originated the role of Gail in the New York premiere of George Walkers’ “Better Living,” with Olympia Dukakis and Rob Morrow. Other stage credits include lead roles in “Godspell,” the Los Angeles premiere of “Orange Flower Water,” by Craig Wright, and most recently, “Beautified” with Mary McDonnell and Jon Tenney.  Terry played Woody Allen’s “sound girl” in “Crimes and Misdemeanors,” and starred in Rob Morrow’s directorial and writing debut “The Silent Alarm,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Other t.v. and film credits include  Southland, Brothers & Sisters, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Desperate Housewives, Beginners, As Cool As I Am, The M Word and many more.

Tami Roman - The Mother
Tami grew up in White Plains, NY with her hard working single mother who held down three jobs. Today she is the dynamic personality of VH1’s hit reality show, ‘Basketball Wives’, and has a career that has spanned over 18+ years, getting her start as a reality show pioneer on MTV’s hit ‘The Real World’. Tami has a diverse resume starring as a series regular on CBS’ vampire hit Moonlight, Fox’s Sex Lies and Secrets with Denise Richards and TV1′s sitcom Belle’s. Tami has starred in projects with Courtney Cox,  Terrence Howard, Vivica A. Fox and many more. At one point in her life, as a little girl, after Tami’s mother was terminated from her job, the two became homeless and were forced to live on the streets of New York. This experience has made Tami a very strong, independent, knowledgeable and a humble woman who appreciates and values life.

WHAT OUR STRETCH GOAL IS FOR

Films cost money to make...that's the reality. By helping us raise our initial funding goal, we can make the movie, but then we still need to get it out there. Our stretch goal will cover marketing and film festival costs.



Play Date is more than just a comedy short, it's a film by a team who have taken on the challenge of making a difference. As much as we try to ignore it, homelessness is a plaguing issue that's happening right in our own backyards.
