Fighting hunger, Empowering education !

Undernourishment means that a person is not able to acquire enough food to meet the daily minimum dietary energy requirements. India has been growing steadily richer in recent years, but it still has more malnourished people, especially children, than any other country.
Food which is a basic necessity for every human being is actually a luxury to thousands of people in India today. A major section of India’s population is unable to get at least one complete square meal a day. According to a recent study by the Institute of Development Studies, 6,000 children in India die per day; 2,000-3,000 of these deaths are linked to malnutrition. In Mumbai, over 26,000 children die per year due to malnutrition

Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust has been deliberately working for the underprivileged section for past many years. Our core focus is to eradicate poverty through our different projects on health, education and Mobility.
We have recently awarded the Google Impact Challenge Award for disability to emerge through breakthrough innovative ideas. Also, we have collaborated with IIT BETiC and Google.org , to develop a innovative process to leverage portable 3D scanning technology to design and fabricate prosthetic devices and footwear that are comfortable and yet affordable for people with disabilities.
Our M.G. Mehta award was honored to Ms.Arunima Sinha, a national level volleyball player who climbed Mt.Everest with prosthetic leg. This award was presented by the much revered Padmavibhushan Shri Ratan Tata.

RNCT – Food for Education Program

For many the meal we provide may be the only meal they receive in the entire day. So we strive to ensure that the Mid-Day Meal is healthy, nutritious and packed with all the important fibers, vitamins and nutrients required for the healthy growth of the child.
Ratna Nidhi serves meals to approximately 4500 children across 37 schools every single day in Mumbai. The recipients of the Mid day Meal are primarily non- aided vernacular schools who do not qualify for the Government Mid day Meal, pre schools in urban areas where ICDS meal is not provided, Night schools and Street Children. The Mid Day Meal is cooked at the Khetwadi Food Center by a special team of Rajasthani cooks under our direct supervision. We work on a minute by minute plan, making sure that our hot and nutritious food reaches all the schools in time.
Ratna Nidhi’s Food for Education project was started in 1998 with a desire to feed the starving children and enable the marginalized group of children to go to school.

Our aim is to Promote Education One Meal at a Time by providing nutritious, wholesome, hygienic meals prepared in hi-tech kitchens which not only nourish the body but also nurture the soul.

Big dreams
Yadgiri hails from a poor family and his father is a construction worker and mother a housewife. He shares that “While there is no money left to educate me, I attend a free school - Sundatta High school. I eagerly wait for my 10 o'clock recess to have my first hot meal of the day sent by Ratna Nidhi. The food keeps me attentive in class for the rest of the day and also saves up a lot of my pocket money which I would have spent on junk food.”

The Need
Your contribution of Rs.200 will help feed a child for a month. We urge you to support the need of as many children as possible to enable us to continue feeding the children from poor urban communities in Mumbai.
