Hip Hop Saves Lives and College Confident present Chrome to College!

A campaign by HHSL

Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School serves 400 students from some of the most challenging neighborhoods in New York City. As they overcome the obstacles of poverty and violence and realize their potential as young people, we are helping to build them a bridge to college, their brightest hope for a successful future. And we need your help! Our goal is to raise $100,000 to purchase Google Chromebooks for their entire student body! Having personal ownership of these computers will not only transform these young people's learning, but it will have a profound effect on their sense of self-worth, confidence, and aspirations. ![](https://s3.amazonaws.com/7ino/1426185627_cuse_1.jpg) **ABOUT US:** ![](https://s3.amazonaws.com/7ino/1426629423_bta.png) **History and Mission** Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School (BTA) is a small, strong learning community dedicated to college readiness and the study of theatre arts. BTA offers a rigorous academic program, daily classes in theatre arts, and myriad extraccuricular opportunities. Theatre isn’t just about acting, directing, and playwriting. It involves technical aspects like lighting, sound, and set design. It requires abilities in organization, finance, and public relations. We help our students identify his/her interests and develop more advanced skills. Theatre also helps build aptitudes that students need for lifelong learning. They must think analytically, communicate clearly, solve problems, and collaborate with peers on complex projects to reach common goals. BTA's lead educational partner is Vital Theatre, an Off-Broadway company whose teaching brings a strong, practical emphasis to learning. Students need to understand what they learn well enough to transform it into performance. The learning is real, and it’s lasting. In addition to the theatre arts, BTA offers multiple different programs to provide a well-rounded education to our students, including Advanced Placement courses, 8 major PSAL Athletic Teams, community service opportunities, and other after-school arts pursuits. Please come visit us, for you really have to see our community in action to fully appreciate what a special place it is. **Awards and Recognitions** - National August Wilson Monologue Competition (Winner 2010, NYC Finalists 2011, 2012) - 46 Chancellor’s Endorsed Diplomas - Recipient,NAMM Foundation/Disney "The Music In You" Grant - BTA students have been accepted into BAM’s Brooklyn Reads, Arts and Justice, and Dance into the Future!
