The Lady Mechanics Project

The Lady Mekanika Project is a unique project aimed at promoting gender equality and empowerment of women by training young women in Kenya in automobile mechanics skills for enterprise development. Started in 2011, the project has given hope to may young mothers who would otherwise be jobless because they either dropped out of school for various reasons or are illiterate.

The One year basic apprenticeship training is currently run at the Women's Academy in Western Kenya. Young and older women are given vocational skills and tools for trade in automobile car mechanics and accredited by a national trade test directorate.

It costs USD 1000 to train one woman for 12 months and to provide her with the tools with which she can start up her auto clinic village enterprise. Our Goal is to train 25 Lady Mechanics every Year.
