FLOODS SWEPT VILLAGES INTO DESPERATE CONDITIONS

Twenty four villages got inundated by the flood. Hundreds of acres of farm land remain under a sheet of water in Krishna district. The toll in the deluge climbed to two with the death of an 11 year old girl and a farmer in the Guntur district.

The affected villages in Krishna district are namely Krishna Lanka-Vijayawada, K-Kothapalem, Bobbarlanka, Regulanka, Vasimeta, Yedalanka and Pallepalem. The mentioned coastal belt villages of Krishna River were completely drowned, previously there was less water in the river. The rising water opened Prakasam Barriage’s gates. Flooding villages that were mostly slums and dump areas where the poorest of the poor live. Most of the huts built by local families were dissolved by the water.

The families in took to the roads for shelter. The people and children are seeking to get the minimum needs to sustain them in the floods. This situation is considered an emergency to feed the affected families, and those who came on to roads for shelter. The children in these villages, find it difficult to attend their daily classes as the remaining water has not cleared the ways to reach schools.

The basic requirements are Rice, Vegetables, Safe-Drinking Water, Bed-sheets, Blankets, Mosquito Nets, Vessels and livestock. The essential commodities like Rice, Kerosene, Red Gram and Palm Oil need to be distributed in the affected areas. People are really facing a tough time, having no proper shelter, sleep, food and other livelihood material.

The lack of essentials makes the life even more badly, the relief centers are maintained by the government, but then, the families are not daring to leave their houses and go to the rescue shelters.

NEED FOR THE HEALTH CAMPS

On the flooded ground, there is a severe need for the health camps to be conducted especially to children and the elderly. Many have developed the allergies and defects illnesses due to the stagnated water on the roads. The government is trying to distribute food and water packets but by fact, it is no where sufficient to those who got affected.

Mobile medical teams have the need to visit people to attend the affected areas. Steps should be taken to avoid spread of communicable diseases.

The elders and children need the basic medication to keep them strong physically. Voluntary organizations like KISES are showing interest to provide them with the minimum requirements, the work is already in the progress, it is here we as an organization looking forward for anybody to come up with a good heart to help these affected villages. This contribution remains very relevant and saves many of the people at the coastal belt to have a peaceful and healthy environment, as some of them even had lost their property.
